Only RASA can efficiently extract hydrocarbons from “unconventional” deposits, like tar sands, without water use or high energy intensity, making previously unrecoverable reserves economically viable and environmentally responsible.
only rasa
Separates tar sands without water, eliminating water pollution and reducing operational costs
Operates at ambient temperatures, dramatically lowering energy consumption and emissions
Achieves a 99% yield in minutes, vastly outperforming traditional methods
Produces high-quality bitumen and purified sand, maximizing resource value
Preserves local ecosystems and dramatically reduces emissions compared to conventional methods, setting a new standard for environmentally responsible extraction
the unsolvable Problem
Even in the 2050 Net-Zero scenario the world still needs 24 million barrels of oil a day – enough to fill 3 ½ empire state buildings. How we extract oil in the Net-Zero future needs to be both economically efficient and environmentally friendly.
Each oil deposit is unique with its own extraction challenges. For the oil industry, tar sands are the most challenging to extract. Their method of extraction uses water and steam to separate the sticky bitumen from the sand. Days of processing and reprocessing are needed to achieve a yield of 95% – which is why it’s such an energy-intensive source of oil and among the highest in emissions intensity of any of oil deposit.
Tar sands are also notorious for their severe and negative environmental impact. The extraction method leading to vast quantities of water-waste and pollution. In 2020 in Alberta, for every barrel of oil produced from tar sands, an equivalent volume of polluted water was added to its tailing ponds—a 1:1 ratio.
Nowhere on earth are tar sand deposits more notoriously difficult to extract or the local community more alert to environmental disturbance than in Utah. For over a century, entrepreneurs have tried—and failed—to profit from Utah’s tar sands, leaving behind a graveyard of bankrupt ventures and disillusionment among its local communities.
the only solution
RASA’s technology is the only solution that can efficiently extract hydrocarbons from challenging deposits like tar sands without using water or energy intensity. Unlike conventional methods that are environmentally damaging and often economically unfeasible, our approach makes previously unrecoverable reserves viable. This unique capability transforms the extraction process, making it efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible in a way no other technology can match.
